Supporter charged after racially abusing Peterborough United's Ricky-Jade Jones

PFA

The PFA welcomes news that a man has been charged and issued with a Football Banning Order for racially abusing Peterborough United forward Ricky-Jade Jones in November.

Cambridgeshire Police found the 19-year-old guilty of a racially aggravated offence during Posh’s match against Cambridge United on 9 November. The offender has been fined £100 and banned from attending any football match within the UK for three years.

PFA EDI Executive Terry Angus assisted Jones and the clubs throughout the criminal procedure and has welcomed the verdict.

“This is a positive result and it’s right that the offender has been punished for his mindless actions.

“It’s also proof that meaningful outcomes can be reached when players and fans report discriminatory abuse.

“We’re thankful for Cambridgeshire Police’s work and the engagement of Ricky and both clubs to reach this verdict.”

Players affected by discrimination of any kind are encouraged to report the abuse and contact the PFA for further support.
