Tim Krul plays as a goalkeeper for Luton Town in the Premier League and has been a long-serving member of the Netherlands national team. Krul began his career at ADO Den Haag before joining Newcastle United’s academy in 2005. He made his senior debut for Newcastle in 2006 during a UEFA Cup tie, marking the beginning of a long association with the club.
Krul became Newcastle’s first-choice goalkeeper in the 2011/12 season. Over his 11 years at the club, Krul made over 185 appearances, playing a key role in Newcastle’s domestic and European campaigns. Loan spells at Falkirk, Carlisle United, Ajax, and AZ Alkmaar provided valuable experience during his time at Newcastle.
In 2018, Krul joined Brighton & Hove Albion before moving to Norwich City later that year. Krul was instrumental in Norwich’s promotion campaigns in 2019 and 2021, winning the club’s Player of the Season award in 2020. He remained a key figure for Norwich during their Premier League and Championship seasons until his move to Luton Town in 2023.
On the international stage, Krul is best remembered for his heroics in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, where he came on as a substitute in a penalty shootout against Costa Rica and saved two penalties to send the Netherlands to the semifinals. He has earned over 15 caps for the national team.
Off the pitch, Krul has begun preparing for a future in football by pursuing coaching qualifications, including UEFA badges, and mentoring young goalkeepers.
