Players have voted for their standout performers from the Championship 2023/24 campaign, with nominees set to be honoured on 20 August at this year’s PFA Awards ceremony in Manchester.
The Top Six shortlist for PFA Championship Player of the Year includes Southampton’s Adam Armstrong, whose goal in the play-off final at Wembley secured the side’s promotion to the Premier League. A total of 24 goals bagged over the course of the season put him second in the league’s scoring charts.
It was Blackburn Rovers’ Sammie Szmodics who earned the Championship Golden Boot award, and the midfielder is now in the running for PFA Player of the Year trophy after his 27 league goals and four assists were recognised by peers.
Leeds United top scorer Crysencio Summerville also bags a Top Six spot after scoring 21 times for the Whites and setting up another nine over the 2023/24 campaign. He’s joined in the shortlist by teammate Georginio Rutter, whose tally of 15 assists was the second highest in the league.
Leif Davis of Ipswich Town also makes the Top Six with 18 assists banked – more than any other player in the Championship over the season. He was an instrumental figure in Kieran McKenna’s successful push for promotion to the top flight.
Finally, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is shortlisted for the award following a strong campaign that helped the Foxes bounce back to the Premier League. His 12 goals and 14 assists have been recognised by the PFA membership.
