Chelsea and Manchester City players dominate PFA WSL Team of the Year for 2023/24.
Following a title race that went to the wire, Manchester City have six players featured in the PFA WSL Team of the Year for 2023/24. Young goalkeeper Khiara Keating takes her place in the player-voted top 11 after an excellent season for City. Nine clean sheets and the fewest goals conceded in the league sees her nominated to the PFA Team of the Year for the first time.
Alex Greenwood and Laia Aleixandri are both named after excellent seasons in Man City defence. Greenwood’s inclusion is her fourth in total and third back-to-back nomination for the PFA WSL Team of the Year. Aleixandri was also dominant in defence for Gareth Taylor’s side and made 21 league appearances over the course of the campaign.
Japanese international Yui Hasegawa features after standout performances in midfield for City. She played in every league game and is featured in the top 11 for the second year in a row. Teammate Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw features after scoring 21 goals in 18 appearances, becoming Manchester City’s all-time leading goalscorer. She is on the list with strike partner and four-time PFA Young Player of the Year Lauren Hemp, who netted 11 goals and contributed eight assists for the light blues.
WSL Champions Chelsea have three representatives in the Team of the Year, voted for by the PFA members. Full-back Niamh Charles played every game in her fourth campaign for the Blues and is named in the top 11 for the first time.
She’s joined by Erin Cuthbert who was hugely influential in the middle of the park for Emma Hayes’ side as they chased down their seventh WSL title. Current holder of PFA Young Player of the Year, Lauren James is also named in the top 11 after providing her side with 13 goals in 16 league appearances.
Arsenal Team of the Year representative Lotte Wubben-Moy was the epitome of consistency in the heart of defence as she helped her team win the League Cup as well as qualify for the Champions League.
Grace Clinton rounds up the PFA WSL Team of the Year. The Tottenham midfielder, on loan from Manchester United, had a stellar campaign in midfield and finds herself nominated for PFA Young Women’s Player of the Year for the first time too.
