England legend Fara Williams has been honoured with the 2024 PFA Merit Award for her contributions to the sport.
Williams ended her career as the most capped England player in history, making 177 appearances and scoring 40 goals for the Lionesses over an 18-year period.
She also represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics, where Team GB reached the quarter-finals in London.
Williams represented five clubs during her illustrious career, beginning at Charlton Athletic before moving to Everton, Liverpool, Arsenal and Reading.
She won several major honours, including the Women’s FA Cup on two occasions along with two Women’s Super League crowns with Liverpool. As a result of her excellence, Williams was inducted into the WSL Hall of Fame in 2021.
Off the field, Williams has been a strong advocate in supporting homeless charities, and post-retirement has launched a successful punditry career on the BBC.
Congratulations Fara from all of us at the PFA!
