The Football Black List recognises the contributions made by Black figures working in various domains across football, including media, community, coaching and commercial.
Fern has been honoured in the Practioners category in recognition of her work at the PFA as an EDI Women’s Football Executive.
“I’m delighted to have been named in this year’s Football Black List among some other fantastic Practioners.” Whelan said.
“It really does mean a lot to see the work I and the PFA are doing recognised in this way.”
Fern plays a leading role in the union’s efforts to elevate diverse voices across the sport. She also spearheaded and continues to lead the PFA’s See It. Achieve It. initiative.
The scheme has created a network of WSL players from diverse backgrounds to mentor the next generation of female talent in the game, with the likes of Demi Stokes, Bunny Shaw and Gabby George involved.
