Former Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom has been named the inaugural winner of the PFA Championship Players' Player of the Year Award.
Akpom starred for Michael Carrick's men in a breakout campaign. He scored 28 goals in just 40 appearances to lead the second-tier goal chart in their drive to the Championship playoffs.
The 27-year-old's excellence has seen him claim the prize ahead of Nathan Tella and Josh Brownhill, who were integral in Burnley's charge to the Premier League. Iliman Ndiaye, Carlton Morris and Viktor Gyokeres also fell narrowly short after impressive seasons in front of goal in the Championship.
The striker's achievements on Teeside didn't go unnoticed, with Ajax paying a transfer fee of € 12.3 million to take Akpom to Amsterdam ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Akpom said after winning the PFA Championship Players' Player of the Year Award: "
Congratulations to Chuba from all at the PFA.
