Five out of six PFA Players’ Player of the Year nominees have been named in the 2022 PFA Women’s Super League (WSL) Team of the Year. Arsenal’s Kim Little and Vivianne Miedema, Manchester City’s Lauren Hemp and Alex Greenwood and 2022 PFA Player of the Year, Sam Kerr all make the cut.

It’s no surprise that the PFA Team of the Year is heavily represented by the teams at the top of the WSL, with Emma Hayes’ Chelsea featuring four players, trailed by Arsenal and Manchester City with three PFA Team of the Year players each.

The season’s top goal scorer Sam Kerr is joined by teammates Ann-Katrin Berger, Millie Bright and Guro Reiten – all previous PFA Players’ Player of the Year nominees who have consistently contributed to Chelsea’s fantastic recent form. The team’s chemistry and electric on-pitch performance has seen them win back-to-back FA Cups and a record-breaking three WSL titles in a row.

Arsenal’s Leah Williamson and Vivianne Miedema join captain Kim Little as part of our PFA Team of the Year, after a stunning campaign that saw Arsenal top the table for most of the season only to miss out on their fourth WSL title by just one point. The Gunner’s trio are also all previous PFA Award winners, Little won the inaugural women’s trophy in 2013, WSL all-time record goal scorer Miedema was PFA Player of the Year in 2019 and Williamson picked up the PFA Young Player of the Year award in 2015.

The third club trio with previous PFA Award nominations, Manchester City’s Alex Greenwood, Caroline Weir and Lauren Hemp have all been nominated for PFA Players’ Player of the Year. Hot on the heels of Arsenal and Chelsea, these three players had a fantastic run of form in the latter part of the season, ultimately finishing third in the league and going all the way to the FA Cup Final.

Manchester United’s sole player to feature in the PFA Team of the Year, Ona Batlle is one of the most capable full backs in the league, bringing both technique and versatility to Mark Skinner’s team. A fan favourite after three seasons at the club, Ona made 25 appearances for United in 2022 and scored two goals.

With a record attendance at the women’s FA Cup and more televised games, the WSL continues to go from strength to strength. A huge congratulations from everyone at the PFA to the 2022 PFA WSL Team of the Year!
