The world’s greenest football club Forest Green Rovers has five players featured in the 2022 PFA League Two Team of the Year, after a thrilling season ending with Rovers winning the title and securing their first ever promotion to League One.
Forwards Matty Stevens and Jamille Matt took second and fourth positions on the league’s top goal scorer table, with 23 and 19 goals apiece. The team’s ambition and resolve was evident all season and saw them finish on level points with Exeter City, lifting the trophy on goal difference. The front two’s performances, Kane Wilson’s 13 assists, Nicky Cadden’s hat-trick against Crawley Town and 107 tackles from Ebrima Adams, rightfully earned each of them a spot as part of the 2022 PFA League Two Team of the Year.
Exeter City’s Matt Jay bags his place on the list, after scoring 14 goals in some superb performances that helped his club secure automatic promotion in early May. League One golden boot winner Dominic Telford also secures his spot after scoring 25 goals for Newport County, including a hat-trick against Stevenage last October.
Three players from fourth-placed Northampton Town make the Team of the Year, with goalkeeper Liam Roberts working with Fraser Horsfall and Jon Guthrie to create a solid defensive line that provided the foundation for the Cobblers, conceding the fewest goals in the league to secure a place in the playoffs. EFL veteran Peter Clarke takes the final Team of the Year spot, after making 51 appearances this season for Tranmere Rovers.
Congratulations to the 2022 PFA League Two Team Of The Year from everybody at the PFA!
