Open Day: PFA x London Fire Service

London Fire Service

The PFA and the London Fire Brigade are delighted to announce an exciting taster event, helping players explore a career in the fire service. The London Fire Brigade are London's fire and rescue service - one of the largest firefighting and rescue organisations in the world. They are here to make London a safer city.

Footballers demonstrate many of the desired attributes of a Firefighter. You need to be physical fit, have a good technique and ability to respond to a range of situations in a calm, constructive manner. Through training, you’ll learn how to tackle physical tasks correctly and, above all safely. Firefighters respond to a range of emergencies, from fires to floods, chemical spills to road, rail or air traffic collisions, whether in home, business or rural settings.

You’ll never be bored

8% of the role is responding to fires and other incidents. A lot of your time is spent preventing emergencies through school visits, household visits and public building checks. When you do respond to an emergency, you’ll be trained to tackle it smartly and safely, never acting alone.

There are lots of career opportunities

This is a career, not just a job, and you’ll never be stuck doing the same thing day after day. Not only can you progress with promotions, but you can diversify your role and become a specialist within many areas.
