The PFA is delighted to announce that the Manchester United, WBA and England legend Bryan Robson OBE has agreed to perform the official unveiling of the PFA plaque to Bert Whalley at the home of Stalybridge Celtic on Tuesday 27th July at 6pm.
Bryan Robson will be joined by, amongst others, Bert Whalley’s granddaughter, Lindsay Vare.
Whalley played for both Stalybridge Celtic and Manchester United. He was later appointed by Matt Busby as a coach at Old Trafford and where he was instrumental in developing the skills of many young footballers that became known as the Busby Babes.
Born in Ashton-under-Lyne, Whalley was a victim of the Munich air disaster on 6 February 1958. The plaque will honour a local man who was loved by his community.
Following the unveiling a tribute match between Stalybridge Celtic and the Manchester United under-23 side will take place at 7.45pm.
