John Mousinho voted new PFA Chair

John Mousinho, Oxford United

This week the 13 representatives of the new PFA Players' Board met for the first time since their election in April 2021.

In one of the first major decisions made by the newly formed board, Oxford United defender John Mousinho has been selected as the new PFA Chair, with former Coventry City winger Peter Vincenti chosen as Vice-Chair.

Both Mousinho and Vincenti were members of the previous Management Committee who had overseen a transitional period for the organisation over the last year.

During the last 12-months, the PFA has implemented new governance and operational bodies. This structure includes the Players' Board, a new Chief Executive, four Non-Executive Directors and an Operational Board.

Mousinho said: "It is an honour to represent our members as elected Chair of the Players’ Board, and I look forward to continuing the organisation's vital work.

"We have a diverse, experienced and knowledgeable Players' Board who are perfectly positioned to take the union forward."

Mousinho concluded: "I would like to thank the outgoing Players' Board members, particularly Ben Purkiss, who has mentored me throughout my time at the PFA and has been instrumental in his role as Chair."

As part of the wider organisational changes, the Players' Board composition has been adapted to ensure equal representation from all tiers of the membership. This includes two members from each of the five divisions - Premier League, Women's Super League, Championship, League One and League Two, plus for the first time, representation from three former members.

Former PFA member Peter Vincenti will serve as Vice-Chair. He spoke of his excitement at the appointment: "During my time as a professional, I benefited greatly from the available services to members and it is with great pride that I accept this nomination as Vice-Chair of the PFA.

"As a board, we look forward to building on the exceptional contributions of those before us, and we will work hard to ensure that players are proud to be part of their union."

The Chair and Vice-Chair from the Players' Board will form part of the new Operational Board, working alongside new Chief Executive Maheta Molango, four newly appointed independent Non-Executive Directors and the Finance Director.
