Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld and Jenna Schillaci have been named as PFA Community Champions for 2019/20.

The PFA Community Champion Award aims to raise awareness of the great support that PFA members provide to their Club’s community activities during the season.

Defender Alderweireld was nominated for the award after lending his support to the club's community and education initiatives throughout the season. Just before lock down commenced, the defender took time out of his training schedule to pay a surprise visit to Crowland Primary School to mark the third year of the Premier League Writing Stars poetry competition. Time and time again Alderweireld has shown he understands the importance of Tottenham's community work and is always willing to go the extra mile when it comes to their fans.

Not only does Alderweireld give back to the local community of Tottenham, but also in his home country. He demonstrated this during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, donating tablets to hospitals in Belgium so that patients could stay in touch with their loved ones.

Alderweireld has said "Community is so important to us as a Club and we are committed to supporting people of all ages in our local area. I’m proud to be involved and will continue to champion this fantastic work."

This season, she attended the opening of The Ark, a new home of the clubs charity partner Noah's Ark Children's Hospice, spending time with families and staff. She also recently took time out of her training schedule to visit the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation's girls' half term football tournament. During her visit she took the time to give the gives the young players some words of inspiration, present winners medals and even took part in some dance routines!

Throughout the season Schillaci has continued to show her support to the Rainbow Laces campaign and in the build up to International Women's Day, she sent video messages of support and shared her story with students at a local primary school.

"I thoroughly enjoy doing anything and everything I can to help this community. I love Tottenham and want to help and inspire as much as possible."
