Want to be a football referee?
- Date: 3rd or 10th July 2019
- Time: 1200hrs – 1700hrs
- Venue: Warwick University
Most professional players look to remain in the game in some capacity once their playing careers have finished. But have you considered qualifying as a football referee?
The PFA, in association with the FA and PGMOL are offering an opportunity to attend a one-day Referee Taster Course during which you will be guided through the refereeing experience looking at all formats of the game.
The course will provide an exclusive insight into the role of the referee and the opportunities available should you wish to consider an alternative career in football.
The day is structured to provide you with both theoretical and practical elements of refereeing on and off the field of play. The theory sessions will provide you with interactive Laws of the Game situations where you will make decisions on several match incidents. You will then have the chance to test your knowledge with a short Laws of the Game test. The practical sessions will enable you to practice your referee/assistant referee skills and provide you with a short experience of refereeing a football match.
Finally, you will have the opportunity to gain an insight into the demands of the officiating professional football during a Q & A session with a Select Group match official and discuss the Player to Referee Pathway. This Pathway will create opportunities for players to transition into refereeing, recognising your playing experience and providing opportunities to experience refereeing whilst still playing.
