Plane carrying Emiliano Sala found in English Channel

Cardiff pay tribute to Emiliano Sala

Wreckage from the plane carrying Emiliano Sala and pilot David Ibbotson has been found in the English Channel.

The Piper PA-46 Malibu plane which was carrying Cardiff City's signing along with pilot David Ibbotson disappeared from radar over the English Channel on Monday.

Sala signed for Cardiff City for £15m and he was travelling to Wales from his former club Nantes.

Following three days of searching land and sea around the islands of Guernsey and Alderney, the official search was called off on Thursday.

However, footballers and fans supported a GoFundMe appeal which provided funds for a private search utilising two fishing boats.

David Mearns led the private search and speaking on behalf of the families confirmed that the aircraft had been found this morning:

"Wreckage from plane which disappeared with Cardiff City's Emiliano Sala and pilot on board found in English Channel located early this morning by the FPV MORVEN.

"The families of Emiliano Sala and David Ibbotson have been notified by police.
"Tonight our sole thoughts are with the families and friends of Emiliano and David."
