The PFA is deeply saddened by the passing of former England and Ipswich Town player Kevin Beattie, aged 64.
Beattie is regarded as one of Ipswich Town’s greatest ever players, playing for them during their most successful period.
Born in Carlisle, he went on to make 296 appearances for Ipswich, scoring 32 goals.
His manager at Ipswich, Sir Bobby Robson, described the defender as the best English player he had ever seen.
He was named PFA Young Player of the Year in 1974 and was an FA Cup and UEFA Cup winner.
Beattie made his international debut aged 21 in 1975 and went on to make 9 appearances.
His career was unfortunately dogged by injury and he left Ipswich aged 28.
There will be a minute's applause before Tuesday's game against Brentford and the players will wear black armbands.
Gordon Taylor OBE on Kevin Beattie: “The first PFA Young Player of The Year in 1974 and the ‘Duncan Edwards’ of his day!
“On behalf of everyone at the PFA, our sincere condolences go to his family and friends.”
