First black player to play in FA Cup Final Johanneson to be honoured

Former Leeds United player Albert Johanneson to be commemorated with a blue plaque in Leeds.

Winger Albert Johanneson was the first ever black player to play in an FA Cup Final, in 1965.

The South African made 200 appearances for Leeds United, scoring 67 goals.

A campaign to honour Albert with a plaque was conducted by Leeds United, the supporters trust and Johanneson’s family.

The location of the plaque is to be confirmed with the unveiling to take place next year.
