Today, the PFA and TackleAfrica visited Hazeldene Primary School situated in Portlands, Mitchells Plain.
Mitchells Plain is a largely Coloured township about 32 km (20 mi) from the city of Cape Town. It is one of South Africa's largest townships located on the Cape Flats on the False Bay coast between Muizenberg and Khayelitsha. The school is committed to creating an environment suited for the development of inspiring and dedicated young pupils both academics and physical endeavors.
Through participation and communication between the school and its community, Hazeldene Primary, strive to holistically develop lifelong learners to become responsible, successful South Africans, through love and respect for themselves, others and the environment.
140 students participated in a Nelson Mandela Quiz and Poster Competition followed by a sports session outdoors including coaching drills, netball and a football tournament.
John Hudson and Michael Bennett joined CEO Mbulelo Bikwani, along with his team from The Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation during mid-morning coffee to discuss the PFA’s Legacy programmes. John was able to discuss partnership work in Manenburg, Langa and Mitchell’s Plain townships and extend gifts as part of the ongoing relationship with the Foundation. The Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in Cape Town. It follows the example of Archbishop and Mrs. Tutu by supporting local and international projects and initiatives that promote peace, reconciliation and Ubuntu for the benefit of all.

The Foundation’s activist role includes developing and managing partnerships and legacy-promoting programmes. At the same time, the organisation contributes to the positioning of Cape Town as a world capital for the intellectual and practical pursuit of local and global peace, morality and human dignity.
In the afternoon, the PFA ran a coaching session for Making an Impact Through Sport (MITS) U14’s boys team who are planning to attend a football and cultural tour to Frankfurt, Germany in May 2018. The players received a full Manchester City kit generously donated by the club (pictured above).
