The PFA is deeply saddened by news that former Wigan Athletic player Juan Carlos Garcia has passed away from leukaemia at the age of 29.
The former full-back joined Wigan in 2013 from Honduran club Olimpia and played his only game in a League Cup defeat against Manchester City.
The PFA was in contact with Juan Carlos and his family throughout his illness, offering him our full support.
PFA Chief Executive Gordon Taylor OBE said: “I wish to record my deepest sympathies at the tragic passing of Juan Carlos Garcia.
“Having got to know Juan Carlos well since his diagnosis and helped him and his family during his treatment, his love for life and human qualities shone through.
“He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and may God bless him and keep him.”
A minute's silence will be held before Wigan’s match against Peterborough on Saturday.
The thoughts of everyone at the PFA are with Juan Carlos' family and friends.
