The PFA is deeply saddened by the passing of Liverpool legend Tommy Lawrence, aged 77.

The Scotsman signed for Liverpool in October 1957 and became Bill Shankly’s first-choice keeper, making 390 appearances.

Whilst at Anfield, Tommy missed only four league matches in six seasons as they won the First Division Championship twice and claimed the FA Cup for the first time.

He became affectionately known as “The Flying Pig” due to both his physique and flair for spectacular, acrobatic saves.

Tommy moved to Tranmere in 1971 where he stayed for three years and went on to make 80 appearances. He later moved to Chorley.

He was capped for Scotland three times.

All at the PFA send their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Tommy.
