Gordon stated: “Our chairman is retiring after a very distinguished career in the game and much travelled career in the game from Blackpool to Northampton and quite a few stops in between.
"He’s always been not just a footballer but been at the forefront of many social issues. Speaking from his own experience, he’s had to handle many delicate issues during his time on the Management Committee and also as chairman. Involving issues, over and above, footballers and their contracts, but about issues that affect everyone in life.
"With mental health and welfare and from that point of view he’s had his battles on and off the field but he’s fought both those with great resilience and come through. He’s been an excellent chairman for the PFA and is now looking forward to a career in the media and on behalf of all our members and staff I wish to thank you most sincerely Clarke for your contribution and to wish you every success in the future. Thank you.”
