The PFA would like to express our deep sorrow and sadness at the loss of Denis Thwaites and his wife Elaine in the Sousse attacks in Tunisia.
Denis, 70 and his wife Elaine, 69, were staying at the Imperial Marhaba Hotel in Tunisia where the terrorist attack took place.
Denis who was originally from Stockton, was a teenage prodigy for Birmingham City when he first appeared in the first team as a 16-year-old in 1961.
He turned professional in 1962 and made 87 appearances for the Blues, scoring 18 goals for the club.
He retired from professional football in 1972, aged 27. He played briefly for Rover FC in Solihull in the mid-70s.
Chief Executive of the PFA, Gordon Taylor OBE said: “Denis was a contemporary team mate and friend from schoolboy football when he played for England and at Birmingham City.
“He will be sadly missed by all who know him. God bless and keep them both.”
All at the PFA would like to offer our sincere condolences to Denis and Elaine's family and friends.
