The PFA are saddened by news that former Scotland and Charlton Athletic player John Hewie has died at the age of 87.
Hewie represented Charlton 530 times between 1951 and 1966 in a number of positions, including goalkeeper. He is third on the list of Charlton Athletic all-time appearances.
Hewie was born and raised in South Africa to Scottish parents and moved to England to join Charlton in 1949. He played 19 times for Scotland including at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden.
Following playing for Charlton Athletic, Hewie left to play in Pretoria. He returned to England 25 years later.
All at the PFA would like to offer our sincere condolences to John's family and friends.
