PFA Coaching Office Manager Julian Hayes blogs from Brazil.

Flumeninse FC was the next stop on our study visit to Rio's top professional sides.

A very tradition club, wealthy by Brazilian standards, there stadium is based in an affluent suburb of Rio.

The front entrance was reminiscent of Arsenals old ground and as you walked through the club there was a real sense of its culture and traditions.

For the PFA coaches it was the opportunity to see the first team train and discuss the clubs football philosophy that generated the groups interest.

Meeting the first team manager and the clubs football projects executive was the key to a very successful visit .

A club proud of its traditions was also remarkably modern in its vision.

It's president wants a first team based on players from the Academy system.

The Academies ideal is to produce players with the flair, pace and creativity of the very best Brazilians but with the tactical know how and game management skills of the top European sides.

The club actively recruit  throughout South America for the best young talent. They loan out young players to medium sized European sides to develop Their skills. Either for their first team or to put them in the shop window as income from transfers is crucial to maintain the clubs infrastructure.

A fascinating visit to a club steeped in history but in touch with the realities of the modern game.
