To ensure equalities is a strong focus for every PFA department and to work with clubs to enforce the message, we’ve added three new members to the team.
Ex-West Bromwich Albion, Derby and Portsmouth player Darren Moore is now Equalities Executive in
Coaching, Terry Angus (ex-Fulham and Nuneaton) is Equalities Executive in the Community and ex-Nottingham Forest striker Jason Lee arrives as Equalities Executive in Education.
The trio will work closely to support and strengthen the current PFA Equalities Agenda, pursuing a zero tolerance approach to all forms of discrimination and prejudice.
Their main remit is to visit clubs and offer information and support to players, while providing a focus for the PFA’s anti-racism agenda.
Darren Moore
As a former Management Committee member Darren is familiar with the remit of the PFA and is keen to spread the word about the great work we do for and on behalf of players.
An imposing centre-half, Darren made over career 600 appearances playing for Torquay United, Doncaster Rovers, Bradford, Portsmouth, West Bromwich Albion, Derby County, Barnsley and Burton Albion he also represented Jamaica internationally.
Employed within our Coaching Department as Regional Coach he also has a responsibility for the development of Equality and Diversity.
Darren’s knowledge and experience will be of benefit to any player who feels they have any issue of concern and he is also assisting in the delivery of the Senior Players Diversity Programme.
The PFA's commitment to address the under-representation of black players in coaching and management is also within Darren’s remit and as a participant to the Get On board campaign he will support our on-going work in this area, along with the rest of the team.
Jason Lee
During his playing career, Jason amassed over 650 appearances and played for 18 clubs including: Nottingham Forest, Charlton Athletic, Peterborough United, Southend United, Watford and Notts County.
His remit at the PFA is to ensure players are aware of the services of the union and in particular of the opportunities and importance of education both during and after a players career.
The Equalities remit is to ensure that black, Asian and players from minority ethnic backgrounds are accessing our courses and to provide a pathway to future opportunities in the game from coaching and managing to administrative and Board level.
As a former player Jason understands the importance of the transitional process that every player goes through and wants to help players experiencing this difficult stage: “As someone who has been through the system and played at a high level I can let players know the reality of the situation when they come out of the bubble that is professional football”.
Jason will also support any player wishing to report discriminatory incidents and ensure the procedures are relayed back to a player on a personal level.
Terry Angus
Terry has joined the PFA as Community Equalities Executive and brings a wealth of experience from his time working within the Youth Justice System and also Connexions Service which included advice and guidance to those at risk of disaffection and involvement in community diversity programmes.
As a player Terry played made over 350 league appearances playing for Northampton Town, Fulham, Slough Town and Nuneaton Borough.
Terry works closely with football clubs and community departments to ensure players are supported and represented for social responsibility projects and programmes which is a key part of PFA work.
