The PFA is saddened by the loss of a former member Martin Garratt who has died at the age of 34.

Garratt grew up in Middlesbrough and played for York City’s youth team from 1995, turning professional in 1998.

He made his first team debut in a 3-0 defeat to Preston North End on August 8 of that year and finished the 1998-99 season with 44 appearances and one goal.

His career also included spells with York City, Mansfield Town and Lincoln City.

Sadly Garratt had battled problems with alcohol addiction for some time.

All at the PFA would like to send our condolences to Martin Garrett's family, friends and former team-mates.
