David is second on the Premier League all time appearance list, having played over 500 games for teams including Liverpool, Manchester City, Portsmouth and West Ham. He also holds the Premier League record for most clean sheets with 173, over the last 20 seasons.

Aside from his football career, David set up The David James Foundation in 2005 to help Malawian communities move towards improving long term food security, giving people in Africa the opportunity to farm the land they live on so that it not only provides them with work but also essential materials for day to day living.

David has also been a global ambassador to the Special Olympics Charity which provides year-round training and competition for children and adults with disabilities and worked with Access Sport to provide sports provision in deprived areas of the United Kingdom. He also writes a column in The Observer newspaper.

David Said: "I am extremely honoured to be receiving an MBE today. It is not an award that one sets out to achieve, making me even more appreciative to those that put my name forward. I have had many years playing football, years that have given me tremendous enjoyment. They have also allowed me to get involved in many charitable campaigns, for this, I am very grateful."
