Get Started With Football involves clubs engaging young people who are not involved in education, employment or training on a week-long course. The aim of the free programme is to increase levels of employability, encourage young people to think about how they can get into education, employment or training and generally raise life aspiration.
In a practical sense, it involves a variety of football-based coaching as well as education and vocational sessions, all of which encourage participants to gain new skills, confidence and a football coaching qualification. The sessions, which include emergency first aid training, sexual health, healthy eating and a Junior Football Organisers qualification, are designed to help participants develop an array of skills that would make them attractive to a potential employer, adopt a healthier lifestyle and give them heightened ambition.
The following clubs are involved with the Get Started programme during Autumn 2015:
- Cardiff City
- Crystal Palace
- Stoke City
- Aston Villa
- Manchester City
