The PFA is delighted to announce that Neil Mellor will be joining the Player Management department.

Neil began his career in the Premier League at Liverpool and burst onto the scene with a spectacular last-minute volleyed winner against Arsenal. He also gained UEFA Champions League experience, with the obvious highlight against  Olympiacos in 2004/05, scoring a vital goal in the group stage, before teeing up Steven Gerrard for his famous winner in the same match. Unfortunately his season ended prematurely that year after undergoing surgery on both knees. Sadly this was set to be a re-occurring problem throughout his career.

After a brief spell on loan with Wigan Athletic was cut short by injury, Mellor signed with Preston North End in 2006. Interjected by a loan season at Sheffield Wednesday in 2010/2011 - Mellor went on to make 138 League appearances for the Lancashire club scoring 38 goals and cemented himself as a fans favourite at Deepdale.

After an injury-plagued season in 2011/2012 it was with regret that Neil announced his retirement from the game in May 2012.

Neil was represented by the PFA's Player Management department throughout his career and having played in the Premier League and Football League, he is uniquely placed to offer advice and guidance to current players.

Player Management Director, Matthew Buck welcomed Neil to the department: "I have known Neil for over 13 years and represented him as his agent for most of that time. He was very disappointed to have to prematurely retire from football last year. This role within the PFA gives Neil the opportunity to stay actively involved in the game and continue to work with many of his friends and contacts in football."

Buck added: "Neil will bring a lot of great qualities to the Player Management department and to the PFA as a whole. Everybody at the PFA is very much looking forward to working with him."

The PFA has a team of 8 licensed agents and Neil's addition underlines an ongoing commitment to ensure that members are offered an unparalleled base of experience and expertise.
